Filthy Dukes – FabricLive 48

No Tags

When Filthy Dukes were asked to bring their ‘Kill Em All’ night to Fabric, the duo was understandably surprised. In fact, given the eclectic indie-meets-electronic vibe, even they weren’t sure if it would work at all. Three years later the night has hosted everyone from Justice to James Murphy, cementing its place in, well, the fabric of Fabric. Their installation for the famed FabricLive series’which
Fabric releases monthly’aimed to capture not only the essence of a Filthy Dukes live set, but the feel of ‘Kill Em All’ to boot. Lofty goals, indeed. The result is a combination of twenty-three songs that
not only skirt everything from disco to techno, but represent an array of artists who have graced ‘Kill Em All’ like Popof, Zombie Nation and WhoMadeWho. The arrangement reads as a live DJ performance with well-known tunes like Mujava’s ‘Township Funk’ nestled in next to gems like ethereal ‘Most Wanted’ by Alan Braxe & Fred Falke and retro ‘Lifelike’ from Sequencer. In all, the efforts convey a distinct point of view despite the variety. Very few people go beyond the simple task of placing songs together for a mix, but with thoughtfulness on Filthy Dukes’ part, this becomes a shared experience. We’re no longer listening’we’re feeling every track beside them.
