Fedde Le Grand
Output
While the average clubber on this side of the pond May be relatively familiar with Fedde Le Grand, especially after his 2006 track ‘Put Your Hands Up 4 Detroit’ tore down clubs around the world, his newest album Output should further cement his position as one of the top global DJs, outside of the European club scene. With a indisputable mastery of vocal house, Le Grand’s Output features perhaps some of the lesser known vocalists who contributions breath life into Le Grand’s funky, bass-heavy tracks. From Ibiza to NYC, Le Grand has the reputation of bringing an energy matched by few other DJs, and Output is reason enough to put Le Grand at the top of your ‘artists-to-see-live’ list.
Now just one piece of criticism, (and I’m calling it criticism purely in the constructive sense). Nearly every song on Output follows the same formula: introduction, verse, chorus, verse, breakdown, etc. But why mess with what works right? Clearly Le Grand has his methods for success figured out. ‘Let Me Be Real’ featuring Mitch Crown, the first single off Output is pure dancefloor ammunition. The dub-infused ‘My Faya’ featuring Andy Sherman and the dark, syncopated ‘3 Minutes to Explain’ featuring Andy & Dororthy Sherman capture the exotic and varied aspects of Le Grand’s production style. Realistically, every track on Output is set-list material, reassuring my belief that Fedde Le Grand has a continuous finger on the pulse of the club scene.
