Annie Mac Come to U.S. (Interview)

Annie MacAnnie Mac’s a busy lady. She’s not only host of BBC Radio 1’s “Mash-Up” but she’s touring around the world with her amazing touring showcase: “Annie Mac Presents”. Touring all over Europe, the U.S. and the lovely dance haven that is Ibiza. She’s already taken off for another string of U.S. dates just to say hello (and you know…make the dancefloor her bitch)…but before she went off on her beat-laden voyage, she had time to do an interview with URB.

You’ve been all over the map this year, huh? Hitting up New York, WMC in Miami , Ibiza, all around the world…how are you still breathing?!
It was tiresome but so wicked…it was some of my favourite times, going all over the globe seeing so many different crowds and dancefloors connect universally to the sounds myself and the guests on tour were putting out.

What brought about making the “Annie Mac Presents” touring showcase?
It actually started up as way for me to keep me from DJing alone! It’s kinda hard to end off a tour every night at 6AM on your own…so I started getting DJs to come along that I was excited about and it ended up becoming a tour with some of my favorite DJ friends.

The Mash-Up has been monumental since its inception…you’ve brought out so many massive artists onto the show? Does anything or anyone surprise you anymore?
I haven’t been surprised in terms of skill because no one’s done anything shit on the show (in terms of the Mini-mix). I guess I have a knack for getting the right people ’round!

What producers/DJs have been most influential to you and why?
Fake Blood, who I’ve DJed with for a while now…he’s been there from the beginning, pretty much. As a DJ, I don’t think there’s anyone as skilled as him and he’s just really forward-thinking with his sets and he’s been so influential. Also, Erol Alkan, he’s got an explosive energy, brings the excitement to the room…maybe it’s the way he moves. It’s all about his selection, he plays new stuff and stuff HE WANTS to play. They’re both absolutely fantastic to see and hear.

It seems like every time I turn away from BBC Radio, a new radio DJ brings me back and blows my mind with a great show…recently it’s Toddla T. You’re quite chummy with the lad, did you give him any tips?
