OMO

White Album, The

Domestic pop for domestic occasions is the description OMO gives for their music and it can be none more fitting. Playing through their CD is like taking a long breathe of fresh air. The beats are simple and the instrumentation is minimal. However, there is a complexity that can be found in subtlety. The music itself is somewhere between the Books and Beck, their bizzarro pop is one of the most unique and refreshing styles that I have encountered in quite a long time.

A relatively new band, OMO hails from Berlin/ London and consists of 2 members (Berit Immig and David Muth) although there are appearances by Camalo Gaskin & Alexander Holmes. The sound of their music can be attributed to the way in which OMO makes music. Using only small instruments that can fit in an apartment ( amplified Casio keyboards and sampled acoustic textures) they create some of the most unusual yet satisfying sounds that could be used in pop music. For a pretty new band (started in 2004), OMO has a very well defined and unique sound. This CD has become one of my favorites and I hope to see what is to come next from this great band.
