Da Mayor thinks Chicago’s night life is great, but his plan to create “Event Promoters Licenses” is about to shut all but the biggest players out of the game. At Hizzoner, Richard M. Daley’s behest, the Chicago City Council Committee on License and Consumer Protection will hold a hearing Wednesday on creating a new license for event promoters with a set of requirements that will make it too expensive for all but the biggest of promoters to throw events.
The proposed ordinance requires anyone promoting an event where alcohol will be served and the capacity is more than 100 people to obtain a license and meet an expansive set of requirements for them and anyone helping to promote or run the event. The license fee is a steep $2
