Mr. Falyon – Mr. Falyon Meets SMKA Productions

No Tags

Modern rappers are a dime a dozen, very few actually creating a musical identity that allows them to stand out in the over-crowded room that is hip-hop. And with mainstream moguls, the Jay-Zs, the Kanye Wests, dominating the market, it is the lyricism, the roots of the hip-hop art form that get overshadowed.
In steps Philly MC Mr. Falyon with his super-smooth delivery over first-class production from the SMKA crew. Mr. Falyon Meets SMKA Productions is the musical progression of Sean Falyon’s life, his move from Philly to the ATL and his growing buzz around the underground scene. On the opening track ‘Gift of Gab,’ Falyon flaunts his mack-adocia, his uncanny ability to pull ladies. Mr. Falyon is not all about this stereotypical promiscuous lifestyle, however, focusing instead on his career aspirations in ‘Goin’ Away’ and his ‘number one lady on the top of [his] list’ in ‘All I Need.’ Mr. Falyon even packs in some humor in skits like the ‘Manager (intro) and ‘Manager (outro),’ that ridicule the stupid trends in modern hip-hop, i.e. the Stanky Leg and auto-tune. These interludes interrupt the flow of the album a bit, but do offer bits of comic relief.
Mr. Falyon Meets SMKA Productions is a true testament to independent hip-hop. Mr. Falyon is committed to poignant, meaningful lyricism, an underrated trait in modern hip-hop. It’s only a matter of time before Falyon breaks into the mainstream. Hopefully he stays true to himself, as his style and message will refresh the staleness of modern hip-hop.
