The Swedish DJ duo behind Dada Life bring a lot to the table and their cheeky sense of humor brings warmth to their debut Just Do the Dada. However, just beneath that warmth rests darker undertones swathed in reverb and synths from these electro jokesters.
The first major track that got techno heads buzzing was ‘Happy Hands, Happy Feet,’ which lives up to its title. ‘No Need for Machines’ is a driving club banger, like most of the tracks. Dada Life’s purpose is to make fun dance music, and from censoring themselves on ‘Let’s Get Bleeped Tonight’ and ‘Sweet Little Bleepteen,’ to blatant irreverence with track titles like ‘So You Wanna be a Prankster,’ to being a little outrageous and stuffing their mouths with cake (see MySpace or video for remix of SMD), they have fun doing it.
By the end of the album, Just Do the Dada seems a little too formulaic and repetitive. The exuberance they bring with increased experimenting could lead to a record with a little more weight to it.
