Roy Davis Jr
God Life Music
There is a myriad of house music merging with other musical genre creations on this Roy Davis Jr. project entitled God Life Music. On this LP, Chicago based DJ and producer Davis, does what he does best: mix soul with electronic music. But its also here that he peppers it with new and old school hip-hop and R&B and not to mention even spoken word.
There are traditional structure house songs like ‘Bad Like Me’ that gives you the basic steady club beat and constant crooning refrain. Then there are others in which the beat invites kinetics and beg for a voice to just lead us into a line dance like ‘Let It Ride’. The album lyrics are uplifting although at times the harmonies are not as perfect such as in ‘Love Is’.
His production shines in ‘Chicago Heights’ where different sounds merge and intersect with one another while at the same time bringing sonic pleasure. He even experiments with out of the box sounds and effects in ‘Space Music’ and ‘What Cha Gonna Do’. But what makes God Life Music different are tracks like ‘Paradise’ and ‘Electronic Love’ in which he truly fuses soul and house and causes both fans to fall in love with each other. One just wishes at times, he sticks to this formula more.
