Music

Chances are after your first full listen through Steelo’s album, Music, you’ll detect that the rapper/singer tandem are having a lot fun. The second thought May be that they are a little more popular with the ladies than the fellas. With one listen through, A.Uno and Bobby K flow well together and add decent production and you got yourself a nice feel good project.

Now to go back and listen more carefully, the acoustic guitar on “Let It Roll” compliments Bobby K’s soulful verses to form the best song on the album. A.Uno’s style sounds a bit like Baby Bash, which is OK in small doses. Some of the songs, like “So Hott” sound similar to popular songs in the past, but they then respond with tracks like “The West” which has a strong Roger Troutman influence that meshes with a little funk to give a nice fresh sound.

You won’t hear these guys being praised by the so-called ‘true hip hop’ heads, but that’s OK because its obvious they are going for that commercial sound (evident as they’re already in rotation on many popular stations nationwide), which unfortunately is their best and worst quality. While catchy and very radio-friendly, Steelo sound like many other already-established artists, creating a big obstacle to stick out from the bunch.
