Shinobi Ninja – Brooklyn to Babylon (Review)

Shinobi Ninja

Brooklyn to Babylon

Shinobi Ninja is a Brooklyn-based ensemble of six musicians from all different backgrounds creating a sound that mashes funk, reggae, hip-hop, and punk to create the ultimate party music in their debut EP titled Brooklyn To Babylon.

Prior to forming Shinobi Ninja, each of its members had careers in the music industry. Vocalist Dave Aaron and guitarist Adriano Morez produced and engineered at Progressive Studios, vocalist Baby Girl was a celebrity dancer and singer for various major label artists, guitarist Maniac Mike and drummer Terminator Dave who are twin brothers ran a recording studio where they produced for several indie NYC artists, and DJ Axis earned respect all over the East Coast in clubs and battles. AS a result of this diversity and professionalism, the nine track EP stands out from a lot of the rap-rock music being released today.

Surprisingly, there are very few studio tricks and a lot of raw musical talent. It is evident in listening to their sound that SN can sing and play their respective instruments. The first track on the EP starts with a sound similar to the band 311 and progresses into something similar to Sublime (so not that far really). It is truly a feel good track that inevitably puts you in the party spirit. There is a mixture of sounds on the album, a few tracks have a hard feel to them with a lot of heavy metal and punk rock influence (one track, “Rain” is a prime example of this).

Overall this EP is a different pace from what is currently out there right now. So if you are into exploring a new sound and having some music to party to check out this EP.
