Today twitter has been abuzz with news of the passing of Baatin, 1/3 of Detroit hip-hop pioneers Slum Village. There’s been no news regarding how or when he passed.
As one of the founding members of the critically acclaimed Slum Village, Baatin’s unique style was evident from his witty lyrical prowess all the way to his sometimes unconventional attire. Baatin, with the help of his partners and fellow Detroit natives T3 and the late J Dilla channeled the spirit of old Motown to create a brand of soul hop that influenced innumerable acts to come. Slum Village’s debut album Fan-Tas-Tic Vol. 1 still remains as one of the most critically acclaimed hip-hop albums of all time as well as a corner stone to any true hip-hop heads record collection. Us at URB send our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Baatin.
