URB: So what do you listen to outside the clubs and the studio? You know when you are driving or cooking or… if you do either.
FLG: [Laughing] I do. There is this radio station is Holland, which I listen to a lot and it’s jazz, even smooth jazz. I kind of like Jamiroquai, I listen to some hip-hop every now and then. In general I listen to everything except that I don’t listen much to classical music. But I think more chill out stuff because I’m already in a hectic mode most of the time.
URB: Any favorites from the chill out world?
FLG: Well there’s this band called Jazz in the Present I really like their stuff. But I think most people will get nervous from it- it’s slightly experimental, it’s hectic, not really classical jazz.
URB: Will check them out. Who is your favorite producer right now?
FLG: House music producer or in general?
URB: In general, feels like the genres are more fluid now anyways.
FLG: Well it might sound strange but one of my favorite producers it’s actually Timbaland. I think he found a nice way to mix modern house sounds with hip-hop. I just think his grooves are just amazing, even though it’s not house music.
URB: Just for fun, if you could bring back a specific genre and make it huge all over which one would it be?
FLG: Funk…Yeah, definitely! I kind of grew up on James Brown so that would be it.
URB: Tell me a little bit about your residency in Ibiza - Flamingo Nights at Pacha on Tuesdays.
FLG: Well yes, I’m going to be there every Tuesday since it’s my night but there will be also at least one special guest every week and at least one live artist every week. Last week we had Stereo MCs, next week we’ll have Ida Corr. We’ll also have Mitch who I did the single “Scared of Me” with. DJs we’ll have Mark Knight, Sneak, Martin Solveing.
Flamingo Nights Trailer:
URB: How did that work out? Do you pick them, do you decide each aspect of the Flamingo parties?
FLG: Yeah…I have this horrible thing that I’m kind of a control freak [laughing] so I want to be able to decide everything. Of course I can’t do everything myself but I have a vote in everything. But most of them are actually friends.
URB: So what’s your “life on tour” since you’re moving around quite a bit.
FLG: It’s contradictory. I mean, stupid enough, travelling itself you start to hate after a while because you just fly so much. I have at least six flights a week so it’s like waiting and no matter what tricks you have to make it a bit faster than normal it’s still ugh….[laughing] Nah, I don’t like flying anymore. But on the other hand, I just love to be here in America, I went to Japan and before that I was in Russia. It’s great to get to know different ways of life, cultures.
