Rings

Sean Bones, aka Sean Sullivan, is an artist from Brooklyn, who gained some recognition in the band Sam Champion. On Rings, Bones takes the risk of venturing off on his own and reinventing himself into a reggae artist. But is it the right move?

At times, Rings tends to drone on and the songs seem to blend together. Although Sean Bones mixes the genres of reggae and rock, the tempo can get a little monotonous. It seems like he is constricting himself to a specific sound, instead of experimenting with the music more. But it’s not a complete failure since he is able to produce some great tracks such as “Dancehall” and “Sugar in My Spoon” that succeed with the prescribed combination.

The last track on Rings, “Turn Them”, is like a little golden nugget and is ultimately responsible for the album ending on a good note. The track features Norah Jones on vocals, a nice soothing contrast to his voice. This collaboration is not surprising since Norah Jones and Sean Sullivan will both be in a film called ‘Wah Do Dem’ also featuring tracks from Sean Bones.
