What was most impressive about La Roux’s gig at the Troubadour wasn’t the performance itself, but the turn out she was able to generate. Her album hasn’t even officially dropped in the US yet (it’s due at the end of Sep), and she’s already selling out gigs across North America.
Needless to say, the Troubadour was packed. Fans crowded the stage, some even going so far as to mimic her notorious fire-red coif. Despite the excitment however, most everyone remained as tame as La Roux did, barely anyone daring to nod their heads along or dance.
In all honesty, La Roux doesn’t have the stage presence her musical style would suggest…yet. Opening the set with “Tigerlily,” she seemed rather contained as she came onstage, closing her eyes and merely tapping her feet along to the beat of the song. She continued with “Quicksand,” “Armour Love,” and “As If By Magic,” though nothing truly set those tracks apart from the rest of the set, which, amongst murmurs in the crowd, was somewhat disappointing.
