Present: the soundtrack from the surf film by Thomas Campbell, The
The soundtrack accompanying the new film by Thomas Campbell approaches ’surf-rock’ from different perspectives. Instead of the predictable upbeat pop and punk that one May imagine goes along with the surf image, the soundtrack has a roster of artists that cover a scope of folk and indie. Highlights include new tracks like ‘You May Be Blue’ by Vetiver, ‘New Wedding’ by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, and ‘Spendin’ Days’ by Japanese Motors. There’s also some funkified jazz provided by The Ndabva Kure Band, blending well to keep the preceedings going, as well as soul and psychedelia provided by David Axelrod and Tommy Guerrero. It isn’t the kind of music you would expect to pair with a movie about the history and future of surfing, but much like the movie itself, it’s approaching surf from a different point of view, something anyone can appreciate.
