The announcement that Jay-Z will be filling in for the Beastie Boys at All Points West following annoucement of MCA’s health concerns marks the first time the world’s biggest rapper will perform at a US Festival. Having rocked Glastonbury last year, is Jay ready to become the go-to MC for large scale events? It could be a better career move than say, being CEO of a record label.
The fact that Jigga want’s to be a “rock star” is hardly news to anyone who has watched him jump from height to height over his career. It’s been a decade since he was much concerned with being the world greatest rapper. And his foray as the CEO MC seems to have slowed with the rest of the global economy. He first dropped the words “rock star” while trying to raise awareness of the global water crisis, and pretty much got slammed for it. It’s hard to take almost any celebrity seriously when doing photo ops in Africa, but it was a look that particulaly didn’t fit Jigga too well. So instead he’s decided to try on the actualy rock star suit instead.
