Paul Oakenfold
Perfecto Vegas
With his largely successful residency at the Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, along with his reputation as one of the most notorious trance party-starters, it’s only natural that Paul Oakenfold release an album in celebration of his achievements. Perfecto Vegas, named for his famous Saturday night throwdown at Rain Nightclub in Sin City, is everything classic Oakenfold fans mighit expect from their beloved Brit. Huge, tight kicks are matched with chattery snares, then layered with surging synths and massive filter sweeps, just enough to put the energy level through the roof, should MDMA be rushing through your bloodstream or not.
And here comes the ‘But’. Just as most trance mix albums tend to be lackluster, bland recreations of the club atmosphere, so is Perfecto Vegas. Capturing the club environment without the sights and smells is a near waste of time. So as one considers Oakenfold’s Perfecto Vegas purely for its musical quality, it simply satisfies expectations without any additional glamour, dynamics or sensations. Perfecto Vegas is exactly what one would expect from one of the world’s top trance DJs, but once again I am left hanging, using my idealistic imagination to conjure (what I assume to be) the Perfecto experience.
