Last week AEG Entertainment shopped their footage of Michael Jackson’s rehearsals to different studios, and today Variety reports that Sony is prepared to pay upwards of $50M for the 80 hours of footage.
The film will have at least three videos, one of which will be an alternate “Thriller.” These vids were to be shown during Jackson’s London show and were intended to be in 3-D. The footage’s director, Kenny Ortega (High School Musicial, eh), will likely direct the film version and is already busy preparing materials for the release before year’s end for Sony Pictures.
The low-down on the other major studios is that they knew Sony would be the forerunner on grounds that sister company Sony Music Entertainment owns the publishing rights to MJ’s songs.
