Echolocation
Echolocation is Public Record’s remix album: a reconfiguring of their self-titled debut LP full of experimental blend of sounds ranging from pop, soul, and early disco from the Philadelphia sextet. Remix albums are judged by their ability to add a different yet digestible element to the previous product. So the question lies, does Echolocation do just that?
The difference: they are joined by 11 diverse artists ranging from guitarist/singer Mac McCaughan from Superchunk, indie guys/girls band A Sunny Day in Glasgow, to the post punk sound of Mark Robinson. The digestible element just depends on ones preference for the clean or the abstract. If your preference is blended then you will agree that the 11 track album shines with Arc in Round remix of ‘Comfortability’, Malcolm Ross and James Locke remix of ‘Fake Rain’, Alasdair Maclean remix of ‘Fall of the Fruit’ and Kevin Diehl remix of ‘French Suburb”. These tracks prove that surely a remix has taken place. And you can put that quote out for the public record.
