Cars is Now Now Every Children’s first full-length album, lead by Cacie Dalager and accompanied by Bradley Hale. Now Now Every Children formed when Dalager and Hale were in high school together in the town of Blaine, Minnesota.
Cars’ overall sound contrasts within genres. The instrumentation could be classified as rock while the vocals could fit comfortably with many freak folk acts. One song on the album that stands out is “Friends with My Sister” an unpredictable piece that starts out slow in tempo with only Dalager’s vocals, orchestra bells, and electric guitar. This instrumentation is able to set a distant, lonely mood that goes along well with the lyrics. The song picks up in tempo towards the end, dropping the vocals and orchestra bells, adding drums and keyboard into the mix. This song showcases Dalager’s distinct voice, which ultimately seems to carry the band on this album. Her voice is able to convey emotion effectively, especially melancholiness.
The songs on Cars are able to individually stand on their own, but collectively, the album tends to blend together at times. Many of the songs are on the darker side, so it’s best to listen to this album in small doses.
