Chris Tietjen – Vier (Review)

Chris Tietjen

Vier

Can Cocoon Recordings do any wrong? Seriously, though, the German label has been putting out solid electronic music consistently for nearly ten years without missing a beat. 23 year-old Chris Tietjen joined the ranks of the dance powerhouse in 2005 and mixes the label’s 4th compilation album, aptly titled Vier (that’s ‘four’ in German). Tietjen takes all the major hits of the last 12 months on Cocoon, including three songs by Minilogue, including an excellent Dubfire remix of ‘Jamaica.’ Tietjen effortlessly creates the perfect balance of tension and release, building the tempo in waves that (please excuse the analogy) really does create a feeling of undulation to this record. The ridiculously infectious ‘I Just Can’t (Take It)’ (Inxec vs. Matt Tolfrey) is sure to have bodies moving this summer, while Martin Buttrich’s minimal and clean ‘I Lost My Wallet’ thrives on its attention to the little details, It’s a solid body of work from the Cocoon team, who no doubt have proven themselves to be one of the leading electronic labels out there.
