Redefine is Canadian hip-hop duo Dragon Fli Empire’s third album. Showcasing production that fuses jazz and funk with DJ Premier-esque record sampling, emcee/producer, Teekay, and DJ Cosm are a good musical match. This duo’s production game is not lacking. Weather its the soul filled track ‘10 Floor To The Roof’ or the drums and horns love affair track ‘Ride On’ featuring Raashan, the pair has spent time on creating quality, melodic, and catchy sounds. What lacks though, is consistent quality lyrical flow.
On ‘Fastbreak’, Teekay’s first lyrical impression is not a good one as he announces “So sweet call me captain crunch/ I’m still breaking fast while y’all out to lunch.” But don’t let that stop you from listening to the rest of the album. For on the occasion when guest lyricists step in, DFI create standout cuts like ‘Outside Inn’ featuring Candence, Weapon and Lyn Olagundoye, ‘Paradise’ featuring Moka Only, and ‘To The Sky’ featuring VelBen & Ohmega Watts.
