Tiny Masters of Today – Skeletons (Review)

Tiny Masters of Today

Skeletons

At just over four foot tall, sibling duo Ivan, 15 and Ada, 13 make up Brooklyn punk band Tiny Masters of Today. TMT has a slew of impressive accolades under their collective belt, including being called ‘genius’ by Ziggy Stardust himself, David Bowie, as well as gracing the pages of Newsweek. Their newest LP, Skeletons is full of spacey production and upbeat pop/punk tunes that show the duo only getting better with age.

The tag team comes out swinging on the opening track ‘Drop the Bomb’, meshing heavy drum and bass with blistering guitar riffs. The motif of heavy distortion is evident throughout the whole album, sometimes to the duo’s benefit, however after the first half of the album a listener may grow tired of the vocalists shouting lyrics through what sounds like a cordless telephone. Either way, the catchy punk tunes flex the musical skill of these young New Yorkers as the production of the album draws from influences outside of the genre.

Overall, the duo’s second full length LP is an impressive showing of age and skill. Although at times the tunes become monotonous, the brother and sister group show that they’re going to be around for a hot minute, cranking out anti-Disney channel ditties in the name of all things punk.
