We keed! We keed!
Kids from several different Chicago Public Schools cluttered into the tightly packed Chicago Theatre to catch the first of two Kanye West concerts. Mr. West played one of his more impromptu gigs for the high schoolers, who attended the concert as a reward for either improving their grades or maintaining steady ones (Maybe if Kanye West would performed every time I got good grades I wouldn’t be failing Math).
Starting the concert by simply asking the crowd “What do you want me to play?”, Kanye went through a string of hits- “Jesus Walks”, “Good Life”, “Amazin”—reminding Chicago why he’s been at the forefront of pop culture for almost a decade. Yeezy was in true form this Thursday afternoon, jumping into every song with the same energy, aggressiveness and visible effort he displayed during his infinitiely impressive Glow In The Dark tour. Kanye then had the generosity to have a question and answer session with the students, something that affirmed his great love for Chi-city. He announced that he is currently in the studio with Rihanna, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Drake, Jay-Z and many more, and even spit a verse from the first rap he ever wrote. Kanye then took to the stage one last time to perform
“Heartless”, proving yet again that his reign over pop music (and beyond) won’t be ending any time soon.
