I can’t even remember the last time I saw a recent picture of Bizzy Bone, let alone a live performance from the guy. Truth is, I’ve never even been to a Bone Thugs show before. Although even if I had, chances are that Bizzy would not have been present, given his notoriously unreliable performance history. Luckily he was at the Grove of Anaheim last night for the opening night of the Unite the Mic Tour.
After standing around impatiently for wave after wave of opening acts, Bizzy finally made a surprisingly low-key entrance. He was considerably heavier than I’d remembered. The vocals were on point though. It was a treat to see him spit his rapid-fire verse from “Thug Luv.” As a tribute to Pac, Bizzy held the mic out and had the whole audience join in when it came time for his subsequent verse. This fittingly enough transitioned into a Biggie tribute as Bizzy immediately launched into “Notorious Thugs.” He swaggered across the stage singing the chorus with drink in hand, pausing every now and then to take a sip. He miscalculated once and it spilled it out over his chin. He wiped clean and kept going without missing a beat.
