J-Boogie’s Dubtronic Science – Soul Vibrations Dub Remixes

No Tags

Late last year, J-Boogie dropped his Dubtronic Soul Vibrations project. The project featured contributions from Aima (The Mamaz), The Brass Mafia (Jazz Mafia), Raashan Ahmad (Crown City Rockers), Charles Cooper (Lunar Heights), Carlos Araiza (Afro Mystik), Rene Flores (Costra Nostra), David Boys (Brown Fellinis), Genevieve (Noble House), Evan Francis (Spaceheater), Robin Sukhadia (Ahimsa), Tony Moses (KPOO), Gina Rene (Soulstice), Gabby La La (Dakah)and several others. Now, roughly eight months later, J-Boogie has released a remix version of that project appropriately titled, the Dub remixes.

The major distinction between the two records is that the remix project places greater attention to the music and scales back the vocals. The soundscape is still fueled mainly by Latin flavors, Jazzy grooves, and lush instrumentation, resulting in a beautiful work of art, but because the vocals from the original serve as looped echoes or make intermittent appearances, the sonic quality of the songs is uniquely intensifies these soulful vibrations. This remix project is all about losing yourself in this instrumental experience. While the guest appearances on the first album may have provided memorable verses, on the remix project, they provide a tonal quality that adds to the texture of the track and helps the listener to become further immersed within the Dubtronic universe that J-Boggie has created. It is always interesting to see artists revisit a project that they have already completed to see what they might have done differently. The result is incredibly revisionist, equally entertaining, and even more illuminating because you get to see how truly lush and detailed the music really is.
