Emperor Machine, The – Space Beyond the Egg

If you have a lust for disco, minimal dance or pure electro, then look no further than the latest release from The Emperor Machine, titled Space Beyond the Egg. This thirteen track release, which sounds as if it is the by product of someone letting a rabid computer out of its cage that wants nothing more than to make electronic instrumental grooves, is pure fusion of man and machine coming together as a band.

This second LP from The Emperor Machine is intriguing and foot tapping good at times, sadly it limits itself by using a one tone in the electric keys throughout the entire album. And while that tone starts off as new and fresh in track one, by track five it begins to resemble something out of an 80’s horror/action movie soundtrack.

The Emperor Machine is clearly capable of piecing together dope melodies, but their insistence on heavily tilting things towards retro hi fi makes their music sound like cheesy scifi.
