IGN is reporting a partial list of tracks that will be available for “mash-up” when DJ Hero hits the shelves this fall. The article also reveals that DJ Hero will feature a mixer, in addition to the turntable controller already revealed. It also goes on the explain the gameplay itself, which sounds like a clever modification on the proven Guitar Hero model.
Mash-Up List:
- Gorillaz’ “Feel Good Inc.” vs. Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”
- Chuck Brown & The Souls Searchers’ “Bustin’ Loose” vs. The Zombies’ “Time of the Season” (DJ Shadow Mix)
- David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” vs. KRS-One’s “Jack of Spades” (DJ Shadow Mix)
- Nirvana’s “All Apologies” vs. Rick James’ “Give It to Me Baby” (DJ Shadow Mix)
- Jurassic 5’s “Jayou” vs. Herbie Hancock’s “Rockit”
- Tears for Fears’ “Shout” vs. Eric Prydz’ “Pjanoo”
- Plus tracks from Beastie Boys, Beck, Blondie, Billy Squire, and more
Gameplay Explained: The player follows a pre-set stream of colored icons along with music, while the camera pans around the stage and audience. Instead of streaming vertically down the screen, your notes spin by on a vinyl track like a record. There are three lanes: green, red, and blue. The green and blue represent each track used in the current mix — think of them as record A and record B. Icons indicate when to open the fader to one or both tracks and when to scratch. Scratches are signified by arrows pointing in the direction you move the turntable. On easier difficulty settings you can ignore these arrows and scratch how you please. The red lane is your sample stream, used to trigger sound effects or vocal samples.
