File this under “Things That Make You Go, ‘Huh!?’” Best Buy has announced that they plan on stocking vinyl (those 12-inch wide plastic discs once the most common way to store music) in all of their 1020 stores, following a successful run in 100 test stores according to the New York Post.
The move hopes to make up in part for falling CD sales. Sales of vinyl were up an astonsihing 89% in 2008. Still a fraction of the sales los, but a glimmer of hope nonetheless. But don’t expect to find your favorite indie tracks on the shelves. Major labels will be stocking the space with reissued classics like Pet Sounds and OK Computer. And with an average retail price of over $20, this is one for the collectors, not for the kids.
