Project Jenny, Project Jan

Colors EP, The

Brooklyn laptop-electronic/rock duo Project Jenny, Project Jan are back with a new release, The Colors EP, their latest since 2007’s XOXOXOXOXO. Bringing their unique brand of new-agey rock, complete with a healthy dose of electro pop, glitch-filled goodness, and a splash of downtempo beats, the record is a solid package of five songs that show an eclectic range in influences. Album opener ‘Pins and Needles’ is a slinky, dark number featuring vocalist Jeremy Haines’ is all at once mysterious and brooding, and undeniably catchy. The duo moves right along into the ‘You Said,’ which unexpectedly moves into world-music flavors, which is echoed on ‘Caller ID’ with its tinges of reggae and dancehall, and album closer ‘Junk’ leads us back in time to kitschy 80s pop. Simply put, there couldn’t be a more appropriate title for Project Jenny, Project Jan’s latest work, as it really does cover all colors in the spectrum’an enjoyable and diverse listening experience, to be sure.
