Kaskade
Grand, The
Kaskade is back at it again, heating up club floors with his follow-up to last year’s mega-popular Strobelite Seduction, entitled The Grand. Of his latest work, Kaskake (n’e Ryan Raddon) explains, ‘The Grand references the overall sound of the mix. I wanted to capture the essence of the big room sound that I play but demonstrate that this sound can still have heart and soul.’ And indeed, the ‘big room’ sound is alive and well in this album: the eighteen track-strong album will no doubt please those who loved his last release, but it might leave more to be desired by those pining for the days of the more mellow house sounds that helped him make his name in the electronic world. The album opens with the sweet, tempting vocals of Tamra on ‘Angel On My Shoulder,’ a track that effortlessly moves into ‘With You Forever (Dirty South Remix).’ Raddon teams back up with Deadmau5 for two mixes of ‘Move for Me,’ as well as producing original productions and remixes featuring the likes of Misha Daniels, Dirty Vegas, and Steve Angello. The album is cohesive and moves with ease between uptempo electro bangers (’Beestung’) and more reflective, disco-inspired tracks (’Imagination’). It’s a solid compilation of what’s been buzzing around in the mind of the San Francisco artist these days’and if it operates as ‘an aural blog of sorts-a snapshot in musical time,’ as he says, then things must be going pretty well for the guy: either that, or he’s reminding us of why dance music is so popular as of late’everyone needs an escape, and for that we can always rely on Kaskade.
