Rebotini
Music Components
Armed with an arsenal of bulky synthesizers, keyboards and drum machines, Arnaud Rebotini drops ‘vintage sounds for modern dance music’ on his brand new LP Music Components. But, this is not your average dance album.
It doesn’t dive head first into the pitfalls that most droning electronic records seem to with their looped synthesizers and monotonous drum arrangements. Rebotini’s aim is to keep his listeners ears guessing and feet moving with his unique brand of spaced out production. An admirable trait about Rebotini is that he prides himself in his exclusive use of analog machines to create his truly eccentric sound. In a world full of fake bedroom DJ’s and electro-wannabe’s, it’s refreshing to see an older head putting dated technology to good use. Joints like ‘Swamp waltz’ and ‘Mnll’ show that you don’t need a laptop and expensive software to make music guaranteed to move a few asses. But it’s not all fun and dancing with this record. Rebotini’s throws on some ominous tones in ‘Horns of innocence’ that are borderline frightening.
Overall, a great listen. Rebotini manages to overcome the hurtles of the modern dance album through his abundance of musical experience and talent, a rarity these days in a market flooded with space geeks standing laptop in hand humming their favorite Kraftwerk tune.
