The man behind San Francisco-based Om Records, DJ Fluid, is back to mix the label’s fourth installment in their highly successful Om Miami series. The label has been putting out legit house music for the last 15 years, and have garnered quite a bit of respect around the globe for their diverse roster, covering everything from electronic music to soulful house to hip hop. Continuing with their deep house vibes of the Om Miami series, the latest release is 72 minutes of the mid-to-downtempo funky dance music that we’ve come to expect from Om, featuring some of the label’s established artists like Mark Farina, Fred Everything, and Chuck Love, as well as new tracks from international artists including M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade, Sebo K, and Florian Kruse. Berlin-based Sebo-K’s track, ‘Diva,’ is perfection in its minimal core, the soundtrack to a rooftop party with leggy glamazons sipping martinis whilst entertaining conversation from men who’ve just arrived from a business venture in Ibiza’an elaborate fantasy, for sure, but this is what happens when listening to this album: you can’t help but find yourself transported into a more glamorous and sexy life as DJ Fluid mixes in and out of these 17 tracks with the ultimate ease. Fred Everything turns out some of the strongest tracks on the compilation, from the light R&B influences in ‘Stay (LawnChair Generals Mix,’ to the dance-ready, Latin-tinged ‘Tell Me Why (Fred Everything Lazy Days Mix).’ King Kooba’s ‘Slightly Burnt’ is a hypnotic venture in the deep house that distinguishes the label, and its elements of funky jazz are warm and inviting, something that often is lost in the world of electronic. Om celebrates its 15th year in the biz with its Om Miami: 09 party in Miami (duh) on Mar 28th–check it out for appearances from Mark Farina, Diplo, DJ Sneak, Colette, J-Boogie and more.
