Straight from the UBB vault is dance music gem Assorted Good Vol. 1, and we have Josh Adams and Paul Katcher to thank for that. The duo, better known as members of Exchange Bureau and purveyors of Detroit’s fresh mix of soul/house/funk, started a digital record label last year. There’s no better way to begin than laying down the sexiest track, Pirahnahead featuring Clara Hill on “Badly,” as the opener. Alton Miller’s “Inner 8 (Exchange Bureau Chant Mix)” offers spiritual healing Afro-electro style. Taking it back to the days of old-school funk is “Reversed” and “Funky Candidate (FURS Remix)” sounds like it should be the theme song for this crew. But the album doesn’t get stuck in bygone eras of video-game effects or retro synths: Yaminah’s “7 Days (Pirahnahead Remix) is straight-up dance, and “Breathe New Life” is an ethereal, percussion-infused closing track.
