Fabric 44: John Tejada
DJing is, esentially, getting a party started. Aside from spinning music, you must know what the right music is to spin, feed of the crowd, bring highs and lows, fade in and out, etc. This is something Fabric Records knows all about, and John Tejada does it perfectly on their latest Various Artists release, Fabric 44: John Tejada.
John started off as, believe it or not, a hip-hop DJ, who was always influenced by artists like Kraftwerk, Egyptian Lover, the Planet Rock album…records that may have started him on a hip-hop path but lead him to the techno highway. This shows on his newest mix, using a diverse army of artists to get the job done. It opens slowly with David Hughes’ “Let’s Do It,” with a bass line that builds with the melody until you finally find yourself dancing. Then John slides into the next track, Pigon’s “Kamm,” which kicks off the party. Then the record just has a mind of its own…every track fading seamlessly into the next, with flawless transitions and perfect beat and melody matching.
The album closes with more ambient numbers, like Spooky’s “Candy” and John Tejada’s own “The Open,” and ends Fabric 44 wonderfully. It is exactly how a party mix should go…highs and lows, build ups and break downs, and awesome melodies that never leave the realm of techno music. Fabric and John Tejada have put out another electronic success.
