More Virgin Megastores To Close

So my tradition every week is to go into the Union Square Virgin Megastore right here in NYC and check out what new CD’s and DVD’s have come out and also what hidden jewels are still lurking in the aisles. I am quickly welcomed by a greeter, then I veer to the left to the new releases wall and get to listening. Upon leaving two hours later, I notice that I’ve become a maven on “what’s out”, I’ve read every new magazine, envied the music clothing I can’t afford, and have left out with a CD that I hope sounds as amazing as the snippets that I just heard. I am not the only one either. I’ve seen famous musicians lots of times doing the same thing right beside me. And on some days, I’m in the cafe watching those same celebrities performing for free.

Unfortunately, that ritual will have to come to a close. In Jan it was announced that the Times Square Location would close in Apr. Now, according to Billboard.com, the Virgin MegaStore Union Square and the Market St. location in San Francisco will close at the end of Apr as well.

I know this is a clear indication that digital music have become the new CD. However, it just sucks that the traditional, informative, entertaining, and exciting experience of going to the record store May become obsolete.
