Stones Throw owner Peanut Butter Wolf, along with Dam Funk, DJ Lady Sha, and the Voice of God(…), held quite the show this past Saturday at the Dakota Lounge in Santa Monica, Los Angeles. Dam Funk opened with his classic funkadelics…nothin’ but smooth wax and great tunes. I’d imagine it would be hard to have a bad time in a room Dam Funk was spinning in.
Then abstract-hop act The Voice of God(…) came on with quite an impressive set of musicianship…violin, sax, guitar, and even a harp! All backin’ beats for the EmCee to rip over. It was original and interesting, but did not quite fit the bill of night.
LA’s DJ Lady Sha followed up on the tables with some real good hip-hop mixes, remixes, and all the right fixings. Club bangers, soulful jams, and hip-hop joints filled the room with dancing party-goers. Then the main act, Peanut Butter Wolf, started to set up his notoriously fun VJ equipment.
He bled from Sha’s track into a hit from a reggae act that, for those of you who don’t know, refers to himself as ‘Yellow Man.’ This slowly ran into about three more reggae videos until the jams started coming on. In the blink of an eye it went from Jamaica to U.S., and Wolf was blarin’ everything from Tribe to Mobb Deep. And it was all flawless. The VJing was extraordinary; scratching, beat matching, etc., all on videos. It’s never a good thing to miss PB Wolf, and luckily URB was there to catch it. However…with no camera. Hopefully we will get pics up later; in the mean time, use your imagination and make sure to see PB Wolf and Dam Funk next time they come around!
