Lady Sovereign is quite an original character, who captured the ears of many hipster-hoppers a couple years ago with her debut. Can she do it again? Her new album, Jigsaw, drops Apr 7th in the US, and fans are ready. The album seems to stray in the direction many things are today…more electro-influenced dance numbers and less bang-hard beats. However, Lady Sovereign appeals to this type of hip-hop more than most, and her rhymes fit the flow of the record as well as any fan could hope for. Interesting, slighty fast paced beats, with dancey samples (The Cure!), battle-like rhymes, and eclectic instrumental decisions. This album belongs in the 80s, 90s, and present, which I think is what Sovereign was going for. Here is the track list…that’s all you get for now!
.) Let’s Be Mates
.) So Human
.) Jigsaw
.) Bang Bang
.) I Got You Dancing
.) Pennies
.) Guitar
.) Student Union
.) Food Play
.) I Got the Goods
