Asher Roth comes straight out of the Morrisville, PA ‘burbs admitting that he ’stans’ Dakota Fanning, enjoys salmon, and eats fresh fruit covered in Dannon, just for comic relief. Doesn’ t sound like one’ s beloved neighborhood rapper. And quite honestly, he doesn’ t care. While some of hip-hop’ s leading stars are busy chewing on stale beef and dodging court cases, Asher is attempting to surpass the weed, rims and timbs moniker by forming a niche that does not always grant radio airplay: being himself.
Listening to his lyrics is guaranteed to incite a giggle or two. However, fans and critics alike are wondering if he is just another gimmick MC or part of hip-hop’ s talented tenth. So far, with the release of the Greenhouse Effect Mixtape, assisted by Don Cannon and DJ Drama, Asher is doing fine without all of the extras.
