Today five whole days into the new year Spin Magazine named Animal Collective as possibly releasing the best album of 2009. I guess that could be remotely true if a year was five days long and our planet was called Mercury instead of Earth. And if that were the case we’d probably be on fire!

If URB remembers correctly back in Mar of 2008 Spin Magazine waited a few months before the best band of 2008 declaration was made. That band was Vampire Weekend who were featured on Spin’s cover. I guess someone at spin must be hitting up the old psychic lines or visiting the fortune teller off La Cienega (I heard she’s good). Last time I saw a late night info ad about the future I read the fine print that said ‘for entertainment purposes only’.

As for me I’m excited about what the new year will bring musically whether in the first five days or in the last.
