Mr. Oizo
Lamb's Anger
Paris native, and member of the hipster’s godsend Ed Banger family, Mr. Oizo (ne’ Quentin Dupieux) is bringing his trademark experimental electro beats back to the club dance floors with his latest release Lamb’s Anger. You might remember him from his overnight sensation ‘Flat Beat’ that was featured in those Levi’s commercials with a yellow little puppet named Flat Eric. Having put out more experimental electronic beats in his previous releases, Oizo hits us with a sample-rich album filled with everything from funk and jazz influences to house, hip hop and more traditional electronica. Highlights include ‘Two Takes It’ featuring Carmen Castro, a throwback to ‘88 with samples from Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock’s ‘It Takes Two’ (AKA the best song EVER), and the club-banger ‘Gay Dentists.’ Labelmate Uffie (of course) makes an appearance as well, rapping (would you call it that-?) on ‘Steroids,’ a catchy track that serves as a welcome chance to catch a break after having no doubt danced your ass off during the block of electro-bliss that it follows. ‘Positif’ and ‘Erreur Jean’ are the synth-heavy works more characteristic of Ed Banger, and don’t disappoint in rounding out this diverse and fulfilling album. Oizo’s latest effort easily becomes the pitch-perfect soundtrack to an epic night out, reminding us that these cats across the pond know exactly how to make electronic music seem both strange and familiar, music that practically anyone can enjoy. Vive la French Touch!
