Thinking in how short a time Santi Gold went from being that cool-ass chick everyone knew as Spank Rock’s manager to Santogold the chick that’s lodged at least three songs on every Converse-wearing youth’s iTune’s this year, I thought it would be appropriate to launch my first Urb online post by asking “Is Afro-Punk really a movement?”. Not doubting the stuff either way, I watched this little clip and found it pretty interesting. I also found it a little fascinating seeing as how a cartel as out-of-touch and, per recently, understaffed (anybody notice John Norris is missing all of a sudden?) as MTV can pick up on the nuances a little touch of of chocolate can add to an already beleaguered genre such as “punk rock”. Bravo MTV! A highly enjoyable three minutes and kudos for pointing to Trace magazine!
