The collaboration has within the last few seasons been basterdized to oblivion, yet of course there’s always that glimmer of hope and some great products that embody the true sense of collaboration, while others just plain look sick. Check out the top 10 collabs from 2008:
adidas AZX Footpatrol ZX 800
My favorite aZX Project shoe, not by far, however, as there were a few I liked. Although the blue color put into use is anything but subtle, I think most will be quite surprised when the thing lights up from a mile away due to the predominately 3M upper. Colored 3M is something we need to see more of, in a tasteful fashion of course.
Commonwealth x New Era 59FIFTY All C-eeing Fitted
Having seen enough fitteds to want to puke, this Commonwealth joint definitely stuck out. Incorporating a theme and icon which has garnered much interest with the Eye of Providence, I can really appreciate the way C’mon spun it in their favor.
adidas Originals aZX – Jacques Chassaing & Markus Thaler ZX 8000
While brands like Nike put their cherished designers on pedestals and in the limelight quite often, adidas keeps things a little more low-key. It’s good to see the efforts of some of adidas’ finest tributed on a banger of a shoe that goes the whole nine yards with an awesome (and from what I heard REALLY expensive) box.
Hypebeast x Subcrew Hypecrew Mesh Hat
Might sound like a self-plug, but this hat, as part of our third anniversary, came out quite well. The execution–from materials to colorways–were things we were extremely happy with. True that the majority of people residing outside of South East Asia will have no relation to the trucker (not a good relation anyways), the trucker is a big-time staple in the hot humid South East Asian countries when fitteds would leave you with heat stroke.
Pourous Walker for Huf Collection
The crude nature of the graphics, along with Porous Walker’s style, made for an interesting collection. In doing so, it put on the radar an artist I honestly hadn’t known until after the HUF team-up, something I always welcome.
ALIFE x Chocolaterie Blondel
ALIFE’s collaboration movement always leaves you guessing and this one was no exception. When it first was previewed as an ALIFE chocolate bar on their site, it left me scratching my head only for it to be unveiled as a legit team-up with Chocolaterie Blondel. I’ll take a stab and say that ALIFE doesn’t know how to make chocolate and Chocolaterie Blondel has little skill in making t-shirts… the basis of a true collaboration.
Flight Club x Spalding Basketballs
Something interesting and out of the box. I’m not exactly big into basketball but seeing a number of different colorways (black/black!!!) and materials used, the whole collection turned out great.
NGAP x Neighborhood Incense Bottle
I’m sure you could use this for more than just incense…with a little ingenuity. But Neighborhood’s theme of a Medieval poison bottle results in one of coolest and unconventional incense holders around.
Parra x The Perfect Unison Headphones
Sickest piece of headphone design this year, in my opinion, and it took almost 12 months, coming at the tail-end of 2008. The smooth profile of the headphones with Parra’s trademark artwork create some of the nicest looking headphones around.
whiz x G-Shock DW 6900
With the explosion of G-Shocks in so many models and colors, it’s surprising how much whiz was able to do with so little. But, in all honesty, this year I took a strong looking to tonal blacks and I feel whiz did a good job in balancing the use of black with red highlights.
