Fabriclive.42

Whenever an album kicks off with a warning, you would expect nothing short of a dynamic experience. With wailing sirens serving as the bookends for Freq Nasty’s Fabriclive.42, the breakbeat architect has created a dance album that will have your heart rate racing to catch up with the BPM. Freq Nasty avoids the ‘mash-up’ label while still being able to cover such diverse artists as Santogold, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, TRG, and KRS One. The transitions are seamless, yet unconventional. Hip-Hop’s poet laureate, Saul Williams’ pledge to resist the injustices done in our name is the calculated introduction to a very calculated album. As Saul ends with the pledge to make it real, Freq Nasty bleeds into a beautiful drum and bass driven Santogold Vs Switch and Freq Nasty’s ‘Creator’. This is a proclamation to other DJs who make dance music that they need to deliver on the same sort of promise that Mr. Nasty has over the course of these 24 songs. Resist second rate dance tracks and stick to the DJ who is above and beyond everyone else.
