Of All the Things

Berlin’s DJ collective Jazzanova brings us a taste of the ’70s with their latest studio album, Of All the Things. “Look What You’re Doin’ to Me” gives the album a soulful kickoff with Phonte, and then moves into an old school R&B groove on “Let Me Show Ya” with Paul Randolph. Just by listening to the first few tracks, it becomes clear that this album was crafted for the songs’ sensibilities, not just the DJs’. Even “Little Bird,” with its pared down piano and minimal percussion, flows cohesively with the album’s overall vocal tone. Fans of Jazzanova will certainly find something different, and perhaps a bit more sophisticated, than what they’re used to hearing on previous releases like In Between or Remixed. This retro, jazzy aesthetic on Of All the Things definitely works for them.
