To paraphrase Mad Max Beyond Thunderdone, 16 men enter, one man leaves.
Earlier this month, Red Bull hosted their annual BC One competition, the internationally acclaimed battle of the 16 greatest B-Boys in the world (reppin a dozen countries). URB.com was honored to be a fly on the wall before, during and after the competition and over the next few weeks, we’ll be bringing you event info and exclusive footage from some of the competitors and the man himself Rakaa Iriscience, event host, legendary emcee and overall cool dude.
As Rakaa’ll point out later this week, for a long time the b-boy scene has gotten short shrift when compared to emceeing or deejaying. The goal of BC One, since its inception in 2004, has been to bring a greater spotlight on the “forgotten element” (I know: graf gets played too but that’s a different conversation) and show the world that the b-boy culture is alive and thriving all over the world. It’s an ambitious goal, but judging by the huge number of international media, (U.S. presence was tougher given the event’s proximity to the election), b-boy culture ain’t going down without a fight.
We got a lot more to say on the event, so check back daily (except tomorrow when we get our turkey on) on URB.com for complete coverage. For now, check out the highlight reel Red Bull put together to give you a sense of the event.
