About two dozen seconds in, the drummer abandons his kit, grabs a trumpet, and gorgeous sonic Mayhem ensues…Doesn’t take much to make me happy, in this case it’s The Seabellies’ jangley guitars, up-but-mellow breezy brass (LOVE that sax and trumpet section!) and achingly high-soaring guitar, followed by School of Seven Bells’ airy, upwardly spiraling melodic chants over thick keybs and a cascading guitar that goes from fuzzy to stark at the right times. ‘Caught them both at The Levi’s/Fader Fort. ‘Was a good CMJ this year, more performances en route.
