Awaking this morning to the news that MySpace Music had launched overnight, my immediate instinct for some reason wasn’t to go to MySpace.com, but rather check the blogosphere for detailed news on the joint venture I recently this article on Financial Times.com, I finally made it over to MySpace itself to check out what the new venture really means…
What I found is slyly effective, yet somehow underwhelming. First off, for all it’s fanfare, MySpace Music is not a new website. The page was well designed with a lot of activity. Having not been to Murs’ MySpace page in recent months, I can’t tell you if this is the result of MySpace Music or some savvy web intern at Warner Brothers. The fact that I was immediately given the opportunity to purchase Murs’ first single on iTunes leads me to believe that the later is true. Scrolling further down, I found your standard banners promoting Murs’ Twitter and Facebook profiles, ads selling merch and CD pre-sales and finally your everyday embedded videos, friends list and comments.
