Justice wants YOU to help them with their new release, a CD/DVD package entitled “A Cross the Universe” (clever, huh?). A myspace bulletin from the pair calls for any pictures that fans might have taken at past shows. Their goal is to have the release’s booklet “be made only of images provided by fans.”
You might be thinking, “That’s weird, why don’t they just use high-quality press photos that have already been taken over the years?” But odds are you’re thinking exactly what they’re hoping you’re thinking: “I’VE GOTTA SEND IN MY SHITTY JUSTICE PICTURES SO THEY’LL USE THEM AND THEN I CAN BUY THEM BACK AGAIN AND BRAG TO MY FRIENDS ABOUT IT!!! O-M-Gz !!ni8%3p$47m&njfi4uukfj*@!!!”
But let’s give them the benefit of the doubt; maybe they really love the fans and their fuzzy glowing cross pictures. This strategy is one of many ways record companies and artists alike are trying to make money rather than battle their way up the illegal download hill. If you can’t get us to pay for your digital music, attach it to something tangible we’ll want to buy–like a fuzzy picture I took of a glowing cross at a Justice show.
Here are some examples. If you have anything similar, please send to justicematerial@edbangerrecords.com. But it’d be cool if you sent some pics that have flair–like an awkward dancer or a boob popping out. If you’re really rad you’ll photoshop Waldo in.
