3rd Day of PB Wolf’s 888 at The Do-Over

3rd Day of PB Wolfs 888 at The Do Over

Let us begin by mentioning one very important factor for doing the Do-Over; Sunday afternoons at Cranes in Hollywood. You must have gams of steel! That being said, my legs still hurt. Sunday afternoons are not quite the traditional party time one might think of. On top of that, hot weather in an extremely crowded outside venue gives the ingredients to not just any ol’ party-er, but a party warrior. Yes, yes, this 2-10pm gang definitely likes to party.

As most of you know, today was not just any day at the Do-Over, where normal hosts Aloe Blacc, Sales & Marketing Director of Stones Throw Jamie Strong, and Chris Haycock spin; today was Peanut Butter Wolf’s third day in his 888 tour, where he “spins” eight different kinds of music videos each eight nights. The Do-Over got to see his House ensemble, which contained some pretty awesome 80’s videos, along with noticeable tuneskies like “Around the World” from the French-Fav’s Daft Punk.

The Do-Over was extremely hard to get into. Let’s just put it this way…if you aren’t packin’ anything with a letter from A-D attached to a clothing strap, it’s going to be hard for you to get in. Unfortunately, in terms of getting into the Do-Over, I am packing something else. For an event that runs a long eight hours, showing up in the first two wasn’t even enough. The guest list my guest and I were on had supposedly been narrowed down to what I would like to call, a “best guest list,” which we were told only had about six people on it. Luckily for this intern, my dynamic duo of URB (URB’s editorial staff) made a couple contacts, and next thing I knew we were whisked away into the crowd. Props to Brandon, Josh, and Jamie Strong for the hook-up. Otherwise I would have had to stand in a line that some people were in for up to three or four hours.

Once we were in, there was no question the music would be dope as hell. The oldies (but goodies) were hittin’ hard, Biggie made an appearance in the mix, Mobb Deep popped in, and of course Stones Throw favorites like J Dilla graced the audience’s ears. This never stopped, the music was continually bangin’ and the people of the Do-Over were lovin’ every minute of it; including myself.

Some real heads were spotted in the midst of things; Medusa, an L.A. EmCee, along with her ever-so-stylish hair, was kickin’ it with the good folks of Sunday’s event. Power heads of Stones Throw Chris Manak (Peanut Butter Wolf) and Jamie Strong weren’t afraid to be seen with the non-DJs, and some other recognizables danced through.

My only regret of the whole event was that the climax of Peanut Butter Wolf was not until 8:30, and I may have prematurely partied myself out. However his wide array of videos was still quite impressive and definitely fun to be a part of.

The night ended in a feasting at Rosco’s, which is conveniently located one block down from the Do-Over. I think this chicken-and-waffle-entourage was not so different from the entirety of the day…hot, messy, and lookin’ good. Here is some proof-pics.
